Minnie Riperton - Loving you
This is a classic by any standards.
Ms Riperton died in 1979 of breast cancer but she left some wonderful music behind. This woman could sing. I am not talking about the ability to sound good but she could really SING. If you know this song, then you know that there is a part of this song where her voice lifts and gets so high that trying to sing along is pure madness. Well, her voice could hit the whistle register - that note that allegedly can shatter glass. She was also an excellent imitator and could do anything with her voice including imitate animals. Phenomenal.
She also has a famous daughter....Her daughter Maya Rudolph is a regular on Saturday Night Live and they actually look quite a bit alike.
I first heard this song when Shanice did this song and i really liked it. I remember my dad coming into my room and asking who was singing. Then he said it wasnt a bad cover but the original was better. So of course after finding out from him who the original artist was, i went on a search to find the original and it has been one of my favorites since. If you are would like to hear more from Ms Riperton, i would recommend Here We Go and Inside my Love
What's not to love about this song? Its beautiful, her delivery is on point and the words are amazing.
