Repost - Phenomenal woman

I posted this in the very first few days of blogging. I am sure that every woman worth her salt that is a Maya Angelou fan know of this poem. It is one of my favorite pieces because it oozes sass and confidence. This is not a woman to bow her head anywhere. Enjoy:

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies
I am not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when i start to tell them, they think i am telling lies
I say its in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips
The stride of my step
The curl of my lips
I am a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal Woman
That's me

I walk into a room just as cool as you please
And to a man, the fellows stand, fall down on their knees
Then they swarm around me
A hive of honey bees
I say, its the fire in my eyes
The flash of my teeth
The swing of my waist and the joy of my feet
I am a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me

Men themselves have wondered what they see in me
They try so much but they can't touch my inner mystery
When i try to show them, they still can't see
I say its in the arch of my back
The sun of my smile
The ride of my breasts
The grace of my style
I am a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal Woman
That's me

Now you understand
That's why my head's not bowed
I don't shout or jump about or have to talk real loud
When you see me passing, it ought to make you proud
I say, its in the click of my heels
The bend of my hair
The palm of my hand
The need for my care
'Cos i am a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me
- Maya Angelou

Interesting, I actually have with me 'I know why the caged bird sings' which I borrowed from the library to read, again! Thanks for the poem, I will post it on my notice board; I need to remind myself sometimes. Can you please change the color of the poem though, it's difficult to read? On another note, I loved Betty Boop as a little girl, I thought I was the only one, we don't get to watch it anymore. Sad.

A long time ago, I performed this poem.
And when I was a teenager, this poem was imprinted on my brain.
Imagine my immense pleasure , when one of my favourite entertainers recited it in a movie.. (yep, I am really talking about Janet Jackson and the movie was Poetic Justice).
Gosh! it was like being in 7th heaven
