Monumental Soundbyte - 87

Chris De Burgh - Lady in Red
This is Chris De Burgh's biggest hit and it was released in 1986. This song is massive. One of the greatest love songs ever and it went to number 1 in over 25 countries. Its especially sweet to me because the inspiration and the reason for this song is his wife Diane....
The words are beautiful too...Enjoy!
I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight
I've never seen you shine so bright
I've never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance
They're looking for a little romance
Given half a chance
And I've never seen that dress you're wearing
Or the highlights in your hair
That catch your eyes
I have been blind
The lady in red is dancing with me
Cheek to cheek
There's nobody here
It's just you and me
It's where I wanna be
But I hardly know this beauty by my side
I'll never forget the way you look tonight
I've never seen you looking so gorgeous as you did tonight
I've never seen you shine so bright, you were amazing
I've never seen so many people want to be there by your side
And when you turned to me and smiled, it took my breath away
And I have never had such a feeling
Such a feeling of complete and utter love
s I do tonight
The lady in red is dancing with me
Cheek to cheek
There's nobody here
It's just you and me
It's where I wanna be
But I hardly know this beauty by my side
I'll never forget the way you look tonight
The lady in red
My lady in red
I love you

I'm the first to comment.. well, that's a first..

I can't stand that Chris De B's 'Lady in Red'.. that song had some serious airplay overkill and when your a young lady being crushed by your first love and that track happens to be playing, you kind of have a real loathing for the song.. :-)

But that's just me...

This, for me, is one of the most beautiful songs ever written or performed.

I saw the lyrics on this post and first sang the whole song through, great memories.

I used to tell myself that I would sing this when I have my first child, (a daughter) on her birthday. Dont ask me how I know it'll be a girl. I just do. And I thought of this long before Will Smith did "Just the two of us" with his son.

You didn't mention though, that a short while after this massive hit dedicated to his wife, he was caught in adultery. The papers carried it, he cried, he apologised to his wife, but he'd shown (again)that only God is perfect.

Uzo, when will you reflect on Eric Clapton's "You look wonderful tonight"? I think its as good.
