Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire
The original man in black. Some people would have had their first encounter with Johnny Cash via the movie Walk the Line with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon.
In his career, he sold over 50 million albums worldwide. And did you know that Johnny was scottish?
Anyway - on to this song. It was released in 1963 and became the biggest hit of his career and stayed at number 1 for 6 weeks. Believe it or not, the title of this song is actually about love. If you remember the movie Walk the Line, then you will remember the love affair between Johnny Cash and June Carter. Hot, passionate love affair. Johnny died about 3 weeks after June passed away.
This song was originally recorded by June's sister Anita but Johnny took it, reworked it including introducing mariachi type sounds.
For all the soccer fans out there, Liverpool FC adopted the song in 2002 and is frequently sung by fans during games. The song was also played in the locker room of the English Cricket team during the final day of a test match against India last year.
It is simply an amazing song that is catchy and hot. Enjoy.........
