Thank you Daddy's Girl for tagging me....I have so missed doing a MeMe. Here goes:

Hairdo I'm least likely to rock: Different colored weaves. What is the point of purples, blues and even blond weaves when it isnt halloween? Also Nigerian women can have very very bad weaves when the colors are sort of natural.

Habit I'm least likely to kick: Talking to myself. More people do this than you would believe. I say what's the harm. It helps me not make a fool of myself when i have the insane desire to just say something.

Car I'm least likely to drive: Toyota Corolla. I have the willies just thinking about it. Can i also add the VW Bug?

Fashion trend I'm least likely to try: Skinny jeans, leggings, oversized bug glasses, the boho look

Hobby I'm least likely to take up: Stamp Collecting (what is the point i ask you?)

TV show I'm least likely to appear on: Any...I dont do publicity (even though the world needs to know about the fabulousness that is moi. But i love my relative anonymity - did i tell you i dated an american football player once? Granted he played for just one season with Tennessee but still...Another story for another day)

Popular food I'm least likely to try: Hmm...I am pretty adventurous with food so here's what i am least likely to try again - Octopus, Turkish Delight, certain kinds of sushi, Isi Ewu, Amala, Tuwo Shinkafa, yellow gari (getting a little too long)

Disorder I'm least likely to develop: Bulimia, Anorexia (even though i have prayed to have anorexia to an extent...Not funny but still)

Of all the people I know, I am the least likely to: ask not to cry, ask not to worry, not bring a present, have unpainted toe nails, ask not to give, touch any living creature other than people, have cats as pets, touch cats, touch birds, wear skirts or dresses regularly (again too long)

As far as future ambition goes, I'm least likely to: go into politics, be in front of the camera (i am passionate about entertainment and art but behind the scenes), be a doctor (blood and nasty stuff wrong with people...ewwwwwwwww)

A MeMe - 7 Weird Things about me

So i was tagged by Laspapi and since its been a while since i did a meme, here we go:

• I eat paper. Its one of those compulsive things. I dont know why it started but i have been doing it for years. Since the start of secondary school i believe. And its not sheets of paper. Just the edges of books and stuff. I thought i had stopped doing it till about 2 weeks ago when a member of my team exclaimed "are you eating paper?". Emm....yes i said. I sure am


• I dont like people very much. Which strikes many people as untrue especially if you have met me. I am talkative and laugh a lot. But its on my terms. People annoy me. They scare me sometimes. People irritate me. So this means that i can switch off in the middle of a conversation and just tune out. It means i can be incommunicado for days on end just because i dont want to talk or see anyone. It means i will take off and go to a movie/dinner by myself. I am secure in my own company and since i figure i do damn well by myself, the people i choose to have around me - are quality folks


• I am obsessive compulsive. Well in some things. For example, i am addicted to fragrances. So i have a huge collection of perfumes and body splashes. They are arranged in a particular order and i use them in that order. If the order is thrown, i feel lost. Same thing with shower gels and soaps. I alternate. Shower gel today, soap tomorrow. The order must not change. Same thing with my nail polishes and lip glosses. I have quite a number and i have a system. I have 2 storage bins for each. So i use this shade of nail polish or gloss today from bin 1, it goes into storage bin 2. And i do that - not repeating any until bin 1 is empty. This can take a few weeks. Then i start over taking stuff from bin 2, use and put in bin 1. Movies that i have accrued are arranged in a particular way and i watch them in that order. I have tons of unread books. But as i buy them and put in my bookshelf, i arrange them in order and i read them in that order.


• My laughter is weird. I laugh a lot and it runs the gamut of chuckling, squealing, cackling to even loud shrieking. I have tried to tone it down but i laugh from the inside and i just well...let it go


• I HATE pawpaw and watermelon. Apart from the taste - nasty. The texture is disgusting. But i am revolted by the inside of these fruits. The inside of pawpaw makes me itch. All those black little rough seeds. And then sometimes, they are hidden in the grooves. Yuck! Watermelons..the holes in the fruit and then the seeds....I am revolted just typing this out


• I am addicted to suya. One of the reasons i cant be a vegetarian. I love suya. I can have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I can eat just suya. As long as its extra hot and there is lots of onions, i am good. I have even gone as far as buying suya spice from suya men and seasoning my own meat at home. Yup


• I play with belly button. Its cute when you are 5. But when you are as old as i am and find yourself reaching under your shirt to play with your belly button regardless of where you are - that's just plain weird.

Thanks to the fabulous Daddy's Girl, i am now the proud recipient of The Thinking Blogger Award which is such a huge compliment since i am being a goofball a lot of the time.

So here goes:

Silent Storms in an Ocean of One: I am sure its no secret that Olawunmi is one of the people that i have known the longest - going on 14 years now. Ever since we met, he has been a teacher of sorts. I mean literally, he helped me out with some tough classes back in the day and as we have grown, that hasnt changed much even though i dont like to hear a lot of what he has to say these days. His blog is really cool and you never know what to expect on any given day. One minute he has you thinking long and hard about the state of Nigeria or the antics of Mugabe, the next its a barely coherent rant about F1 or my glorious Reds, the next he is pulling at heart strings with his words of love/yearning/desire that have many women in blogsville wishing to replace the words "her"and "she" with their names. LOL.

Aijuswanarite: A new favorite of mine. This blogger came to my attention during the Naija Bachelor series on my blog and his comments were just so amazing. I have been a fan ever since. Seeing as he was an English major, it guess its no suprise that he is something of a wordsmith. Even when he is questioning the "Naija Big Offer", i just want to laugh out loud. Its like his words are double edge swords loaded with oodles of sarcasm and humour. So cool

Soul Searching: This is a blog that grew on me. I read it every now and again and since i dont really enjoy reading poetry (I know - so hard to believe), never paid it much mind. Then Ms Soul did a post on blacks and i left a really long comment about it. She took my comment, made it a post and did a rejoinder of sorts and that was the start of that love affair. The woman behind this blog is one of the smartest and funnest people i know and she is pretty cool too. Reading her blog forces me to savour the words there. I am a speed reader so i read so quickly that there is the danger of missing the messages that lie between the lines. She has a way of making a simple post about rain seem like a decadent treat to be enjoyed in private

Life is Beautiful .....or is it?: Daddy's Girl's blog that has me checking if she has updated practically every hour. I love her vignettes and stories. Every now and again, she will whip out some poetry and have me reeling. This woman amazes me. Whenever we hang out and do our thing, i almost cant believe that she is the one behind her posts. She really is quiet and unassuming with a powerful mind. Anyway, she weaves issues from infidelity to class divides into her stories and i really like that....

Light Her Lamp: Jaycee's blog is an inspiration to me. She always has some beautiful christian/gospel music playing on her blog and a lot of her recent selections have been new to me. She takes a simple concept of everyday living and uses the Bible and the Word of God to let me know that there really is nothing, abolsutely nothing that God hasnt thought of. Weird thing about her blog as well is the fact that i feel like every post is just for me.

There are so many other blogs that lift me up, amuse me, get me thinking and just make me happy to be able to read but5 it is....

A different kind of meme

It took me a while to get to this meme that Daddy's Girl tagged me on which is unusual for me since i love memes. But this one is different. It actually had me thinking deep and hard. But i think i figured it out now:

3 things i do not want to experience:

• Losing another loved one - i lost a very special friend last year and its a different kind of pain, unlike anything i have ever experienced. Everytime i think about him, i just want to stop and wail. It subsides into a dull ache but the full brunt of the loss washes over me in those moments that i allow myself to really let my guard down and dwell. Its not something i want to experience again
• Failure - I am an overachiever and will run myself ragged in order to achieve anything that i set my mind to. As i get older, i am setting my sights on some pretty big, hairy, audacious goals and there is a part of me that is scared that i will fail in some of them. There are some things that i have set my sights on lately that i have failed to get and it sucks big time.
• Disability - This is something physical that terrifies me. I am so independent and just so me. The thought of going blind, or becoming wheelchair bound, going deaf or having a disability of any kind is frightening. Because this means dependence on other people for the most basic things. And my experience with people - friends and family, shucks even myself doesnt leave me with any warm feelings. Also, i love life. The ability to listen to music, see people's expressions, dance away etc, i thrive on. I imagine it would be harder to have been able to experience these things and then not be able to, than to have never been able to do any of these things at all

3 people who make me laugh

• Moi - i am a klutz, i say the silliest things without thinking and i just generally crack myself up. Last week, my business unit head was standing behind me, i whipped around and said "S, do you want me?". The whole office paused and then cracked up. You would think i would have stopped there. I went on to say "I meant, do you want me to do anything at all for you?". Enough said
• Otisi - this young man is a walking bag of laughs. I laugh and laugh everyday because you never know what he's going to say
• Chandler Bing - I miss Friends. I watch my dvds all the time even if its half an episode. Some of the things this man says have me gasping for breath
• All in all, i am easy. I am very ticklish, i get amused easily so i can burst into laughter at just about anything

3 things i love

• Words - in any order. Novels, poetry, papers, song lyrics....Just bring it on. I am a voracious reader and a very curious person. I believe that information and knowledge is power and i get my power from words.
• Music - Is this really a big suprise? Back in the day, i used to sing. I mean, could have made some money from it. I used to write songs and yearned to be able to play a whole ton of instruments.
• Shoes - I have no idea where and when this obsession began. The taller the heels are the better. I actually get a thrill from a new pair of shoes. Its nothing strange to see me parading around my house in my pyjamas and 3 inch heels for absolutely no reason. My folks just dont say anything
• Jewelery - This stems from my mother's side. My great grandma used to be a famous gold merchant from Ondo State. My grandma while she didnt deal in gold, wore some very serious pieces and still does. Then my mom. Wow. It used to be playful stuff when i was younger, now i have graduated to some serious stuff and there is something about accessorizing with jewelery that does it for me.

3 things i hate

• Cruelty - is it really necessary to kick a dog or beat a person for no reason? Cruelty to women and children...I find that human beings are animals at heart and some people havent managed to tame themselves.
• Stereotypes - All men are dogs; all mexicans are immigrants; nigerian women all like money etc. Stereotypes nauseate me. Take people on a case by case basis
• Creatures - creepy crawlies, rodents, cats, flying bugs. Yuck!

3 things i dont understand

• Atheism - I dont get this. You have to believe in something. A christian God, a muslim God, Hinduism, Bhuddism, Mysticism. Believe in something.
• Some fashion statements - skinny jeans, bubble dresses, over oversized sunglasses, leggings, short shorts etc
• A lot of languages - It would be so much fun to be fluent in like 10 languages. I would just mess with so many people

• Cook - Yes i can throw down. And i love it too
• Be faithful to anyone i care about - friend, lover, family. Almost to a fault

• Bad bad people - it could be envy, jealousy or just really bad advice
• People crying - you hear anyone crying, either ask what's wrong and try to comfort or get up and walk away. Dont just be in the same space with a crying person and do or say nothing
• The other voice in your head - the one that tells you to eat the extra piece of cake, call the married man back, lie to people...That other voice is bad...LOL

3 things i would like to learn

• To play the piano - i see myself in a long elegant black dress with white elbow lenght gloves, hair pinned up, diamond studs in my ear and a baby grand piano. I walk up and lift my train so i can seat on the bench and i begin to play a Concerto. I play beautifully and even begin to tear up. I rise and face the crowd and curtesy and i get a standing ovation. And as the lights come up, i see in the audience: my parents, my siblings, my soul mate, presidents of nations, Oprah Winfrey, Richard Branson, The 3 tenors..on and on. All on their feet applauding me.
• More languages - Italian, Chinese, Swahili are top of my list at the moment

Happy New Year

I cannot believe that its a New Year again but i am so thankful to God that my family is alive and well to see the start of another year. Before moving on, there is this fab questionnaire thing on London Buki's blog that i want to do to put some things in perspective for me. Life is really interesting...Febuary 3, 2007 was the date for my wedding. Obviously that is not the case now but its interesting that at the stroke of midnight here, HE called and we talked about that and us and what will never be.

1. What did you do in 2006 that you’d never done before? Start blogging

2. Did you keep any New Year's Resolutions? I dont make resolutions anymore. I make life plans and decisions

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Oh yes and Sefe is already 9 months old

4. Did anyone close to you die? Yes and i miss him everyday

5. Did you visit any countries? Yes. The United Arab Emirates and Ghana

6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006? Better savings habits, a constant and deeper relationship with God and my dance partner (may not be the same person that i have blogged about...who knows)

7. Will any date from 2006 stay etched in your memory forever? Yes

8. What was your biggest achievment of 2006? Getting promoted - moved up 3 levels and getting over HIM

9. What was your biggest failure? Becoming emotionally unavailable to almost everyone in my life. I have no idea how that happened but i am working on it

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Nothing too intense. A hospital stay and the return of my anaemia with a vengeance

11. What was the best thing you bought in '06? My ipod

12. Did your behavior change over the year? Yes. I became a little harder and little weirder

14. Are you happier than this time last year? Happier? I am not sure.

A Meme

I was tagged by Daddy's Girl and since i am a Meme whore, i have given it a shot. Its all about weird things about me so here goes:

A few random weird things about me:

* I eat paper: Not like a meal or anything. LOL. But i tear the corners of books and eat. I dont know why or how it started but i do it. If you take any book i have and flip through, you will see the eaten edges. I remember being younger and eating corners of my boyfriend's books and i would actually sign it - Uzo was here.

* I use my perfumes and fragrances in order: I have them arranged and i use them one after the other. If someone messes with the order, i cry. If i miss a day, i cry. If anything happens to mess with that balance, i cry.

* I dont like watermelons or pawpaws: Not just the taste but i cant touch these fruits. The seeds freak me out and i break out in goosebumps if i see the fruit cut open. Especially a pawpaw. Oh yuck!

* I screech and grunt when i laugh: Its very unladylike and uncool but when i am really tickled, the sounds that come out of me have raised eyebrows. So i try to be aware when i laugh.

* I am scared of little people: I know its not right but i really am. I see them on the street and i want to run away. I see them on TV and i turn away. Its not a distaste thing. Its real fear. I dont know why.

On that note, i will stop in order to retain some dignity. There are a few other things that are ABSOLUTE SECRETS...LOL

Favorite pizza toppings?: I dont like Pizza. But there is a chain in some states of the Us - California Pizza Kitchen that makes pretty interesting ones. My favorite from there is Pear and Gorgonzola Cheese - its also got caramelized onions and walnuts. Yummy

Last time you ate a homegrown tomato?: I hate raw tomatos. I can only handle them in sauces and stews

Have you ever won a trophy?: LOL. I won something for beautiful smile, Miss Smile, Most likely to end up in entertainment (look what i do now), Miss Fine and i even won something last year at my office christmas party. LOL
